Getting around Montréal
There are several car rental companies available from Montréal including Alamo, Avis, Hertz and National. We also offer Avis car hire for your Canada holiday which can be booked through the Canadian Affair website.
This service runs 24/7 between Pierre Elliott Trudeau Intl airport and the central bus station in Montréal. Fares are a flat $10 and the journey takes 45-60 mins depending on traffic.
Coach services like Orleans Express and Greyhound provide affordable transport to other Canadian cities including Ottawa, Québec City and Gatineau.
Many Montréal hotels provide a complimentary shuttle service from the airport. Please contact your chosen hotel to arrange this service.
Available from Arrivals, licensed taxis and limos offers fixed fares to downtown Montréal - $40 for a taxi and $55/$60 for a limousine.
VIA rail provide a shuttle service from Montréal airport to their station in Dorval if you are continuing your Canada holiday by train.

Montréal traditionally has warm, humid summers and cold winters. Montréal winters aren’t as sunny as in prairie cities like Calgary as the city receives a lot of deep snowfall in the winter. It does take full advantage of the weather with Montréal turning into a winter wonderland. Montréal’s winter calendar of events is packed with world-famous festivals and parties. Don your ski jacket and dancing shoes and party at Igloofest, a huge open-air music festival in the -20°C weather! Or visit the beautiful Montréal en Lumière Festival and have a Nuit Blanche enjoying the food, art, and live performances. Summer in Montréal usually enjoys a good amount of warm, sunny days with temperatures reaching over 30°C. August tends to be the rainiest time of year and July is the warmest. Montréal is a city you can visit time and time again because of its incredible attractions and the activities you can do. Here are just some of the highlights you can enjoy during your holiday to Canada:
- Saint Lawrence River – Enjoy activities like windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, kite surfing and even whale watching. Between May and October, up to 13 species of aquatic mammals are found in the salty waters of the St. Lawrence (River and Gulf), including blue whales.
- Parc Jean Drapeau – You can visit the likes of the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, the Jean-Doré Beach and enjoy colourful gardens. The park also hosts lots of other events throughout the year, but one of the most popular is the dragon boat races.
- Notre-Dame Basilica – The first Gothic Revival style church to be built in Canada is a must-visit. You can go on a guided tour and find out more about events such as the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1984 and some celebrities who have got married here.
- Mount Royal Park – This 200-hectare city park is home to the highest point in the city and it offers spectacular views of downtown Montréal from the Belvédère Kondiaronk lookout.
- Montréal Science Centre – Home to interactive exhibitions on science and technology as well as an IMAX cinema, the science centre is a popular attraction. The Montréal Science Centre is also beautifully located on the King Edward Pier in the Old Port of Montréal.
